On March 29, 2026, the NVIDIA GTX 590 celebrates its 15th anniversary since launch, with German hardware media ComputerBase publishing a retrospective article to re-examine this dual-chip flagship graphics card released in March 2011. The GTX 590 was NVIDIA's competitor to the AMD Radeon HD 6990, with both graphics cards targeting hardcore gamers who prioritize extreme gaming performance over power consumption and noise. The GTX 590 features two full-spec GF110 GPUs on a single PCB, essentially integrating two GTX 580-class chips onto one graphics card, with appropriately reduced operating frequencies to manage heat and power consumption. Each GPU is equipped with 1536MB of GDDR5 memory, and the entire board has a rated power consumption of 365W, requiring two 8-pin power connectors. In terms of performance, at a resolution of 1680×1050, the GTX 590 leads with a composite score of 100.0 compared to the HD 6990's 94.8. However, under high-load scenarios at 2560×1600 resolution with 4AA and 16AF enabled, the HD 6990 overtakes it with a score of 106.8 versus 100.0. Additionally, both graphics cards suffer from micro-stuttering issues caused by AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering), but NVIDIA's more mature driver and game profiles significantly reduce the impact on the GTX 590 compared to the HD 6990.
