Meta Platforms has declared its intention to roll out four in-house-developed AI chips—MTIA 300, 400, 450, and 500—in a phased manner by the close of 2027, in a bid to keep pace with the skyrocketing computational requirements of generative AI. Specifically, the MTIA 300 has already transitioned into full-scale production, dedicated to training recommendation and ranking models. The MTIA 400 has successfully navigated laboratory testing and stands on the brink of deployment. Meanwhile, the MTIA 450 and 500 are slated for a 2027 launch, with a primary focus on inference tasks. This strategic maneuver is designed to diminish dependence on external chip providers and curtail long-term expenditures.
