On March 4, 2026, the research team led by Chang Lin from the School of Electronics at Peking University, in a collaborative effort with the teams helmed by Song Lingyang and Di Boya, unveiled a research article titled "A Multi-Band Wireless System Based on Microwave Integrated Photonics and Metasurfaces" in the prestigious academic journal Nature Photonics. For the first time, the team put forward a scalable, unified platform. This platform adeptly integrates photonic integrated circuits with electromagnetic metasurfaces, successfully realizing a parallel wireless communication architecture. It can support multi-band mobile systems ranging from 2G to 6G and even beyond. This groundbreaking achievement opens up fresh perspectives for the advancement of future wireless communication technologies.
