Can you picture clothing capable of displaying videos, gloves that can replicate the sense of touch, or even a single, slender fiber that, in the future, could detect and process brain electrical signals? The research team led by Peng Huisheng and Chen Peining from Fudan University has shattered the traditional silicon-based research model for chips. They've taken the initiative in proposing and creating a 'fiber chip'. This innovative chip manages to incorporate large-scale integrated circuits within elastic polymer fibers. It successfully amalgamates multiple functions—such as power supply, sensing, display, and signal processing—into a single fiber, thereby paving a brand-new way for fiber electronic systems.
