During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Intel made an announcement regarding its plans to introduce a specialized iteration of the Panther Lake chip, specifically tailored for handheld gaming consoles. According to insider Kepler_L2, this upcoming chip, which will be manufactured using the cutting-edge 18A process, is projected to deliver performance levels on par with that of Sony's next-generation handheld console chip, internally codenamed 'Canis' and rumored to be part of the PS6 lineup.
It's worth noting that Intel's previous attempts to penetrate the handheld console market with its Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake chips, while notable, fell short when compared to the performance and energy efficiency offered by AMD's 'Z' series System-on-Chips (SoCs). These earlier Intel offerings struggled to keep pace with AMD's advancements, prompting the need for a more competitive solution, which is now anticipated with the Panther Lake chip.
