On January 8, the General Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government unveiled the "Plan for Expediting Guangzhou's Transformation into a Powerhouse in Advanced Manufacturing (2024–2035)." This plan outlines Guangzhou's ambition to accelerate the pace of new industrialization and nurture the development of 15 strategic industrial clusters. In particular, it aims to vigorously cultivate six emerging pillar sectors: intelligent connected new energy vehicles, ultra-high-definition video and cutting-edge displays, biomedicine and health, eco-friendly petrochemicals and advanced materials, software and internet services, along with intelligent equipment and robotics. Concurrently, the city will expedite the growth of five strategic leading sectors: artificial intelligence, semiconductors and integrated circuits, renewable energy and novel energy storage solutions, the low-altitude economy and aerospace, as well as biomanufacturing. Moreover, Guangzhou is set to bolster four distinctive and competitive sectors: fashion consumer goods, rail transit, shipbuilding and marine engineering, and intelligent construction and industrialized architecture.

Regarding the six future-oriented sectors, Guangzhou envisions creating a range of demonstration application scenarios for first trials and uses in areas such as embodied intelligence, intelligent unmanned systems, and pioneering new materials. These scenarios are designed to propel the swift maturation and widespread adoption of cutting-edge technologies and products, with the goal of achieving exponential growth in industrial scale within the next 5 to 10 years. By focusing on sectors like cell and gene therapies, future networks and quantum technology, as well as deep-sea and deep-space exploration, Guangzhou will establish a series of high-caliber innovation platforms. These platforms will facilitate the accelerated transformation and industrialization of innovative breakthroughs, fostering a deeper integration between technological innovation and industrial advancement.
