On January 4, 2026, all three major A-share indices finished the trading day on an upward note. The Shanghai Composite Index edged up by 0.09%, notching its 11th consecutive positive trading session. With an annual gain surpassing 18%, it reached a decade-high level. The Shenzhen Component Index jumped 2.24%, and the ChiNext Index advanced 2.85%. Leading the upward charge were the semiconductor, cultural media, and biotechnology sectors. Stocks such as Orient Semiconductor Electronics, Gravity Media, and Biotest Biotech all soared to their daily price limits. Meanwhile, Hotgen Biotech witnessed a surge of over 8%. In contrast, the energy, catering and tourism, and paper sectors lagged behind. China National Offshore Oil Corporation saw its shares drop by more than 3%, Guilin Tourism's stock fell by over 2%, and Sun Paper Industry's shares declined by more than 1%.
