The prices of memory chips have witnessed an unprecedented surge, primarily driven by a sharp uptick in demand for AI servers. This sudden spike has put significant pressure on Japanese PC manufacturers, including prominent names like MouseComputer and Dynabook, compelling them to hike their prices in response to escalating costs.
The global DRAM market is currently dominated by three key players—Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron—who collectively hold a near-monopoly. This, coupled with persistent supply shortages, has further exacerbated the situation.
Meanwhile, the demand for SSDs (Solid State Drives) continues to remain robust, with Kioxia, a major player in the industry, prioritizing its supply to data centers. This strategic move has inadvertently intensified pricing pressures within the PC market. As a result, some manufacturers are now contemplating price increases ranging from 10% to 20%.
