On December 27th, Alex Platt, an analyst at D.A. Davidson, voiced his perplexity over the licensing pact struck between NVIDIA and AI upstart Groq. According to him, the agreement seems to wield little influence on NVIDIA's financial bottom line. Platt emphasized that Groq's chips lack a substantial technological edge in today's market landscape and are tailored solely for particular workload categories, rendering them incompatible with state-of-the-art AI models. He remarked, "From a technological standpoint, we find it challenging to grasp the significance of this deal. While such specialized architectures might excel in certain inference tasks, they face difficulties in adjusting to the mainstream workload types prevalent in advanced AI domains."
