By 2025, the price of DDR5 memory has shot up dramatically, pushing DIY enthusiasts to seek out innovative ways to cut costs. Hardware Canucks has put forward a novel idea: utilizing an SO-DIMM to DIMM adapter to fit relatively affordable laptop memory into desktop motherboards. This adapter comes at a reasonable price, with the DDR5 version setting you back around 45 yuan or slightly more, and it's incredibly straightforward to use. All users need to do is slot the laptop memory into the adapter and then place the entire unit into the slot on the desktop motherboard. However, this approach does come with compatibility hurdles. Some motherboards might not detect the memory or could run into blue-screen issues, and there's a chance the memory frequency won't be fully tapped into. Despite these challenges, for users with spare laptop memory lying around or those on a tight budget, this solution still holds a lot of appeal.
