Based on TrendForce's research, the global wafer foundry sector in the third quarter of 2025 was buoyed by robust demand for AI high-performance computing chips, key components in new consumer electronics, and peripheral integrated circuits (ICs). Notably, wafers produced using advanced processes of 7nm and below, which command higher prices, made a significant contribution to revenue. Some manufacturers capitalized on opportunities stemming from supply chain diversification efforts.

As a result, the combined revenue of the top 10 wafer foundries in the third quarter surged by 8.1% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ), reaching nearly USD 45.1 billion. However, with the international landscape expected to shape market conditions and demand in 2026, memory prices have been on the rise and production capacities have been tight since mid-2025. The supply chain remains cautious about the demand outlook for mainstream end-use applications in 2026. Despite a resumption of inventory buildup in the automotive and industrial control sectors at the end of 2025, it is projected that the growth momentum for wafer foundry capacity utilization will be constrained in the fourth quarter. Consequently, the quarterly growth rate of the combined output value of the top 10 manufacturers is likely to decelerate markedly.
