Samsung Electronics has declared its intention to lower the price for 2nm (SF2) process wafer foundry services to $20,000, in a strategic move to rival TSMC, draw in clients, and boost its capacity utilization. This new pricing is notably one-third cheaper than the speculated $30,000 price tag associated with TSMC. Initially, Samsung's 2nm process boasted a yield rate of less than 30%, but the company is now fully committed to enhancing this figure, aiming to achieve a 70% yield rate by the year's end. Early in September, reports surfaced indicating that Samsung's wafer foundry unit is gearing up for the mass production of its next-gen flagship mobile processor, the Exynos 2600, utilizing its proprietary 2nm process. This development underscores the progress Samsung has made in improving its yield rates.
