On the evening of September 25, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, delivered his sixth annual address at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, centered around the theme of "Transformation." During this nearly two-hour speech, Lei Jun unveiled, for the first time, the intricate journey of Xiaomi's pursuit of self-developed chips. He recounted that in 2014, Xiaomi took a bold step by establishing Pinecone Electronics, marking its entry into the realm of self-developing mobile phone chips. By 2017, the company had successfully launched the "Xiaomi Surge S1." However, the path was fraught with challenges. Due to an initial misstep in selecting the entry point and difficulties in synchronizing efforts with the mobile phone team, the development of mobile phone SoC (System on Chip) chips came to a halt in 2018.

Undeterred, Xiaomi reignited its chip development endeavors in early 2021. Despite encountering a downturn in business and immense pressure stemming from substantial investments, Lei Jun remained steadfast in his commitment to continue funding the project. His perseverance paid off. In early 2024, Xiaomi's chips successfully completed the tape-out process as planned. Then, in May 2025, the company proudly unveiled the Xuanjie O1 chip, achieving a historic milestone by becoming the first company in mainland China to release a flagship 3nm process chip.
