On September 5, U.S. President Trump declared that he would shortly enact tariff measures targeting semiconductor imports. However, he indicated that companies like Apple, which have pledged to ramp up their investments in the United States, would be spared. During a White House dinner held on Thursday, where he engaged in discussions with executives and founders from several leading global tech firms, Trump mentioned that he had already talked over the topic of chips and semiconductors with them. He underscored that tariffs would be levied on companies that are reluctant to enter the U.S. market.

Trump disclosed that the tariffs would be implemented in the near future and would carry significant weight, albeit not reaching exorbitant levels. The previous month, while attending an event alongside Apple CEO Tim Cook, Trump had unveiled plans to impose a staggering 100% tariff on semiconductors, with exemptions granted to companies willing to relocate their production to the United States. Furthermore, Trump hinted that the tariff rate could soar well beyond 100%, potentially climbing as high as 200% or even 300%.
