On September 5, the UK's Financial Times, drawing on sources with inside knowledge, disclosed that OpenAI is set to unveil its in-house AI chip next year. This strategic move is designed to keep pace with the escalating demand for computing power and to diminish its dependence on chip behemoths like Nvidia. The chip, a collaborative effort between OpenAI and Broadcom, is slated for release next year.

Broadcom's CEO divulged that an undisclosed new client has pledged to purchase chips valued at a staggering $10 billion. OpenAI's initiative mirrors the approaches of tech titans such as Google, Amazon, and Meta, all of which are racing to create specialized chips tailored for AI operations.

According to reports, the chip will be utilized solely within OpenAI's ecosystem and won't be accessible to external clients. Last year, OpenAI embarked on a preliminary partnership with Broadcom; however, the timeline for extensive mass production remained ambiguous until now.
