Barely 24 hours after OpenAI's announcement that its latest model had secured a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the narrative took an unexpected turn. Multiple official IMO personnel and academic leaders lambasted OpenAI for their brash and inappropriate conduct. Initially, IMO organizers had requested AI companies to announce results a week post the closing ceremony, in order to spotlight the participating teenagers. However, OpenAI was eager to make the announcement immediately following the closing ceremony.
