The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has issued a legal warning to the AI search engine Perplexity, marking the first such threat against the startup. The BBC accuses Perplexity's default AI model of allegedly using its content without permission for training purposes. The BBC has demanded that Perplexity immediately cease all unauthorized scraping of its content, delete all relevant copies, and propose a plan for financial compensation. If these demands are not met, the BBC will consider seeking a court injunction.
In response, Perplexity has asserted that the BBC's accusations are unfounded and accused the BBC of taking drastic measures to protect the interests of Google.
