The Arc browser, renowned for its innovative interface and productivity features, will discontinue service on December 22, 2026. Its development team has decided to allocate all engineering and security resources to Dia, an AI-first browser. Upon its initial launch, the Arc browser garnered widespread acclaim for its unique design and spatial tab management, even being hailed as the strongest contender to Chrome. The shutdown will proceed in stages: starting immediately, users will no longer be able to create new Arc accounts; from November 23 onwards, AI features on the mobile version will be disabled, and users will be unable to log in to sync data; finally, the desktop version of Arc will become completely unusable, and related apps will be removed from app stores. After account deactivation, personal data will be deleted within 30 days. The team explained that the rising costs of maintaining browser security in the AI era have prompted the decision to concentrate resources on developing Dia. Dia will inherit several core browsing experiences from Arc, with AI features offered as an optional service. Additionally, the team will provide a pathway for existing users to migrate their data to Dia, while also allowing them to export their data and switch to other browsers if they prefer.
