On October 20, news emerged that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), on October 19, had issued a prohibition barring U.S. federal government civilian administrative agencies from purchasing products and services developed by the Chinese artificial intelligence company, DeepSeek, along with its affiliated entities. The DHS also mandated the removal of these products and services from the information systems of the relevant agencies. In reaction to this, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce emphasized that China urges the United States to respect factual evidence and the principles of the market, promptly rectify its misguided actions, halt its unwarranted suppression of Chinese companies, rescind discriminatory restrictive measures, and foster a conducive environment for the normal exchange and cooperation between enterprises of the two nations. China expresses the hope that the U.S. will honor the consensus achieved by the heads of state of both countries, collaborate in the same vein as China, leverage the China-U.S. AI dialogue mechanism to bolster mutual trust, address differences, and jointly foster the sound development of artificial intelligence.
