On October 14, as reported by the Financial Times, CoreWeave, an AI cloud service provider backed by Nvidia, is gearing up to secure funding from insurance companies. This strategic move aims to slash financing costs associated with procuring AI chips and constructing the necessary infrastructure. Brannin McBee, co-founder of CoreWeave and head of its financing operations, mentioned that if the company can elevate the debt rating tied to its chip assets and, consequently, boost its own credit rating, it will gain access to the lucrative insurance capital market. He highlighted that the insurance sector boasts immense capital reserves, positioning it as one of the globe's premier funding sources.
Earlier in the year, CoreWeave successfully obtained an $8.5 billion loan, backed by Nvidia chips and long-term usage agreements with Meta. Looking ahead, CoreWeave's strategy involves enticing insurance companies to invest in loans underpinned by clients with lower credit scores, such as those financing AI labs. Since the year's onset, the company has amassed over $35 billion through diverse funding avenues. By the end of June, its debt and lease obligations had swelled to roughly $52 billion.
