Under the leadership of Fields Medal laureate Yau Shing-Tung, Tsinghua University has forged a strategic alliance—the Yau Shing-Tung Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Alliance—in collaboration with eight premier mathematics research institutions. This alliance is dedicated to fostering the synergistic advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and mathematics, thereby bolstering China's scientific and technological self-reliance and prowess. To ensure effective governance and adherence to principles of openness and knowledge sharing, an academic committee, chaired by Yau Shing-Tung himself, has been established within the alliance framework. The inaugural laboratory has already been set up at Tsinghua's Qiuzhen College, with plans afoot to establish additional laboratories across five strategic locations in the near future. At present, the alliance has outlined six pivotal tasks, encompassing the development of specialized mathematical models tailored for AI applications and the construction of AI-assisted mathematical research infrastructure. These initiatives are poised to drive innovation and accelerate breakthroughs at the intersection of mathematics and AI.
