The South Korean government has outlined a strategic vision to propel its domestic AI basic model initiatives forward along two concurrent pathways starting in 2027. The first pathway involves pooling resources to cultivate globally preeminent, cutting-edge AI models. The second pathway focuses on fostering the widespread adoption of independently developed AI models within industrial and public service domains. Deputy Minister of Science and ICT, Yoo Jae-myung, clarified that this approach does not signify the discontinuation of the current 'Independent AI Basic Model' plan. Instead, it represents an elevation of R&D aspirations through a clear demarcation between technological innovation and industrial deployment.
