On September 3, Google DeepMind and Google Research collaboratively introduced the WeatherNext 3, a cutting-edge global weather AI model. This innovative model leverages real-time data from geostationary satellites to produce high-resolution weather forecasts on an hourly basis across the globe. The spatial resolution for crucial surface variables has been enhanced to 5 kilometers, marking a significant improvement—approximately five times finer than its predecessor. Moreover, the accuracy of precipitation forecasts has seen a boost of up to 50%. WeatherNext 3 has been seamlessly integrated into Google's suite of services, including Search, Maps, and Earth Engine, while developers can harness its capabilities via Google Cloud. This model is particularly beneficial for sectors such as agriculture, logistics, clean energy management, and disaster response planning.
