On August 22, it was reported that Anthropic has hired Amir Salek, one of the founders of Google's custom chip project, to pave the way for its foray into the in-house semiconductor sector. Salek will join Anthropic's computing team in the near future. Previously, Salek was responsible for Google's Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) business until his departure in 2022, and he led the delivery of the first seven generations of TPU chips. Currently, Anthropic primarily procures its chips from suppliers such as NVIDIA, Google, and Amazon, but the company has recently signaled its intention to establish an in-house chip business. It is reported that San Francisco-based Anthropic has already started recruiting personnel for the project and has posted relevant job openings.
