Tencent Holdings has unveiled its financial performance for the second quarter of 2026, revealing a revenue of RMB 204.785 billion, marking an 11% year-on-year surge. The profit attributable to equity holders stood at RMB 56.022 billion, reflecting a modest 0.7% increase from the previous year. Under non-IFRS standards, the net profit attributable to the parent company soared to RMB 68.415 billion, up by 9% year-on-year. Leveraging its proprietary WeLM large model, Tencent has recently initiated small-scale prototype testing of the ecosystem-orchestrating AI assistant, "Xiaowei," within the WeChat platform. Some netizens got a taste of it as early as June. This AI assistant is seamlessly integrated into the WeChat ecosystem, facilitating both textual and vocal interactions. It is adept at performing tasks such as summarizing group chat discussions, generating content, and invoking mini-programs to facilitate access to various life services. Moreover, it incorporates a stringent risk control mechanism, offers multiple interaction entry points, and capitalizes on the WeChat ecosystem to reduce the threshold for user adoption. With WeChat's monthly active users reaching 1.44 billion, the introduction of Xiaowei signifies Tencent's strategic move to infuse AI assistant capabilities into this ubiquitous application.
