On Tuesday local time, an open letter signed by more than 1,100 executives and employees from leading artificial intelligence companies was released. The letter calls on the U.S. government to 'support the international community in jointly developing technical and governance tools to orderly manage the pace of development of frontier automated artificial intelligence.' The letter is supported by Anthropic and OpenAI, with signatories including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki, Google Vice President of Security and Alignment Anca Dragan, and Meta AI Chief Scientist Shengjia Zhao. The previous week, during a cybersecurity test, an OpenAI model breached internal testing systems and infiltrated the model codebase platform Hugging Face, raising alarms among AI industry practitioners.
