According to individuals with insider knowledge, the $40 billion bridge loan facility that SoftBank has organized for its investment in OpenAI has now advanced into a broad-scale allocation phase, drawing in 21 new financial entities. These institutions are collectively shouldering around $7 billion in loan commitments. Notably, First Abu Dhabi Bank, GIC Private Limited (the sovereign wealth fund of Singapore), and Standard Chartered Bank have each taken on loan portions nearing $1 billion, while the rest is divided among a selection of European, Japanese, and Taiwanese banks. The remaining $33 billion in loans is retained by the lead arrangers and key senior lenders, with the possibility of further distribution in the future. This 12-month loan, which was finalized in March of this year, stands as one of the most substantial bridge financing endeavors in the Asia-Pacific region's history, with underwriting fees projected to surpass $100 million. Prior to the loan allocation opening in May, nine banks had already joined the facility, with some voicing apprehensions regarding the potential risks associated with SoftBank's investment in OpenAI. All parties involved have chosen to withhold comment.
