Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are a pivotal field in the global future industries, with large-scale, high-quality electroencephalogram (EEG) data serving as the cornerstone for transitioning BCIs from laboratory settings to industrial applications. Yesterday afternoon, a Chinese research team introduced a cutting-edge EEG signal acquisition device, marking the first instance of synchronously capturing EEG signals from over a thousand participants distributed across various locations. This achievement lays a solid foundation for training neural large models and advancing universal BCI technologies.

According to the research team, accomplishing synchronous EEG signal acquisition among thousands of participants in different locations entails overcoming two significant technical hurdles. Firstly, the device must maintain high signal acquisition accuracy while being miniaturized. Secondly, it is crucial to mitigate network latency to achieve millisecond-level precise time synchronization across multiple devices and locations, ensuring uniform analysis of EEG signals.

Looking ahead, large-scale EEG acquisition technology will amass data essential for training neural foundational models. This will enable AI learning materials to transcend indirect information sources such as text, images, and videos, and instead, directly interpret human cognitive states through neural signals.
