From July 17 to 20, 2026, Shanghai played host to the World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance, with a central theme centered around the inclusive and advantageous progression of AI. At the opening ceremony, President Xi Jinping delivered a pivotal keynote address, putting forward four fundamental principles: fostering openness and mutually beneficial cooperation to spur innovation, heightening risk awareness to safeguard security, promoting inclusivity to facilitate cross-cultural learning among civilizations, and championing solidarity to enhance global governance. Throughout the conference, an accord was signed to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. This organization is dedicated to aiding countries in the global South in expediting their AI development and closing the intelligence gap.
