On July 15, the official WeChat account of China’s Cyberspace Administration announced the addition of Record Filing Information (a specific regulatory term retained in its original form) for seven newly approved generative AI services tailored for mobile devices. Among these is the ‘Apple Intelligence’ large-scale model, developed by Apple Technology Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., with its filing date recorded as July 8 and designated for use on iPhones. This development signals a faster-than-anticipated rollout of AI capabilities for iPhones in the Chinese mainland market.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Baidu and Alibaba have been selected as Apple’s AI partners for the Chinese mainland market. Baidu is set to enhance its search functionalities and adapt them into a localized version of the Siri voice assistant, specifically tailored for Chinese users. Meanwhile, Alibaba’s QianWen large language model will also be integrated into Apple Intelligence, offering users advanced features such as text and image comprehension, as well as content generation capabilities. Previous analyses of iOS code have also lent credence to Baidu’s involvement in this collaboration. Users can soon anticipate a fully localized AI experience from Apple, seamlessly integrated into their devices.
