Earlier this week, Meta introduced a new feature that allowed users to generate images in Meta AI by @mentioning public Instagram accounts. This feature, which by default permitted the use of public content, drew criticism from organizations such as the Screen Actors Guild in the United States. They argued that it could infringe on portrait rights and pose criminal risks. Meta responded by stating that their original intention was to provide a creative tool and allow users to control whether their content was referenced. However, due to feedback indicating that the feature did not meet expectations, Meta has taken it offline.
