On July 9 (local time), Google announced an expansion of its disclosure requirements for generative AI ads, mandating clear labeling of commercial advertisements created or edited by AI on Google Search, YouTube, and the Discover feed to prevent consumers from being misled by false synthetic content. Users can view an explanation of how the ad was produced by clicking the menu or information icon next to the ad. If advertisers use Google's own AI tools, labeling will be triggered automatically; if external tools are used, it relies on advertisers' proactive declaration, with mandatory labeling enforced in some markets based on local regulations.
