SpaceX is stepping up its efforts in the AI computing power infrastructure arena. After inking substantial computing power leasing pacts with Google and Anthropic, it has now forged a partnership with the up-and-coming AI startup, Reflection AI. Per the deal, starting from July this year and extending until 2029, Reflection AI will shell out $150 million each month to SpaceX's AI arm, SpaceX AI, to tap into the hardware resources at its Colossus 2 data center in Memphis, Tennessee. The total value of this agreement soars into the billions of dollars. Both sides have also set up a flexible exit clause, allowing either party to terminate the agreement with a 90-day notice period. By leasing out the computing prowess of its data centers to external AI firms, SpaceX is on a mission to turn its heavy assets into a steady stream of revenue and cement its position as a frontrunner in the AI infrastructure market. Previously, Google pledged to pay around $30 billion by mid-2029, while Anthropic also committed to a $45 billion payment within a similar timeframe. Reflection AI, founded by ex-DeepMind researchers, markets itself as an open AI model creator, honing in on the research and development of open-source large models, and has garnered backing from entities like NVIDIA. The company is eyeing a $2.5 billion fundraising round at a valuation of $25 billion, and this SpaceX pact will offer robust backing for its large-scale model training endeavors. On Monday, SpaceX's stock price took a hit, plummeting more than 10% at one juncture, and as of the time of reporting, it was still down by 9.25%.
