On June 13, according to foreign media reports, sources revealed that SpaceX (SPCX.O) encountered technical difficulties while developing and running the Grok AI model at its Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, leading to the decision to sublease the entire capacity of the data center to Anthropic. SpaceX originally planned to utilize massive computing power to train its cutting-edge AI models through a cluster of three data center campuses. However, latency issues arose when connecting Colossus 1 with the other two sites located over 10 miles away, a situation further exacerbated by aging network infrastructure. Additionally, the integration of Colossus 1 with other facilities was affected by hardware disparities. The facility is equipped with multiple generations of Nvidia chips, including Hopper and Blackwell, as well as some older accelerators, whereas Colossus 2 and Colossus 3 are more uniformly built on Nvidia Blackwell chips.
