On June 12, during the Huawei Developer Conference HDC 2026, Yu Chengdong, the Executive Director of Huawei and Chairman of its Terminal Business Group (BG), unveiled a major upgrade to the open-source Pangu large model, along with the launch of openPangu 2.0. This cutting-edge model boasts an impressive ultra-long context window of 512K and is available in two distinct versions: Pro and Flash. The Pro variant packs a total of 505 billion parameters, with 18 billion actively engaged, whereas the Flash version offers a total of 92 billion parameters, with 6 billion in active use. OpenPangu 2.0 has been meticulously optimized for Ascend computing power, delivering double the inference throughput per card when compared to the mainstream open-source models currently available in the industry. Moreover, it is tailored to seamlessly integrate with the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Starting from June 30, Huawei intends to gradually open-source seven core components, aiming to reduce the entry barriers for developers and foster a more inclusive development environment.
