On June 11, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos expressed his anticipation that artificial intelligence (AI) will usher in a “labor shortage in the economy,” and he brushed aside concerns that the technology will displace human workers. Bezos is currently co-leading a newly established AI company, Prometheus, and is initiating a new project aimed at boosting engineers' work efficiency. The company intends to develop a “general AI engineer” capable of designing and manufacturing intricate physical products, such as jet engines. In an interview, Bezos emphasized that the company's mission is to “empower engineers, streamline the invention process, and expedite project completion for small teams within shorter timeframes.” He believes that the pessimism among young people towards AI is somewhat “at odds with reality.” While AI may diminish the need for labor in current job roles, it will simultaneously generate more employment opportunities and enhance overall productivity.
