On June 8 (local time), Apple announced that its brand-new Siri AI would debut alongside iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. However, due to the ramifications of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), users in the EU will be unable to utilize this feature on iPhones and iPads; watchOS 27 is also impacted. Nevertheless, EU users can still enjoy Siri AI on macOS 27 and visionOS 27. Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, disclosed that over the past several months, Apple has proposed multiple solutions to EU regulators, all of which have been turned down by the European Commission. Presently, there is no definitive timeline for the rollout of Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS in the EU. Apple explained that EU regulators have demanded that Apple grant virtually unrestricted access to user devices for any third-party AI systems, encompassing reading and writing text messages, making purchases, accessing files, and executing cross-app operations—measures that Apple believes pose substantial risks to user privacy and security.
