According to a report from Caijing magazine, an insider at Tencent has disclosed that the specific launch time for the WeChat AI agent is still up in the air, primarily hinging on the progress of regulatory approvals. Given WeChat's enormous user base, which numbers a staggering 1.4 billion, the compliance process is expected to be particularly rigorous. Relevant Tencent executives have so far refrained from commenting on this matter. Earlier reports had suggested that the development of this AI agent kicked off in the first half of 2025, with initial plans for gray-scale testing slated for mid-2026 and a full-scale rollout targeted for the third quarter. However, this timeline has now been pushed back.
