Meta is set to commence a round of global layoffs on May 20 (local time), with a planned layoff ratio of 10%, which will impact roughly 7,800 employees. Concurrently, the company will restructure its organizational framework to streamline artificial intelligence workflows. As part of this restructuring, 7,000 employees will be reassigned to new projects centered around AI workflows, while certain management roles will be phased out. Layoff notifications will be dispatched in three separate waves starting at 4 a.m. local time, and employees in North America will have the option to work remotely on Wednesday. Furthermore, Meta has decided to close an additional 6,000 open positions. This strategic move forms a crucial part of Meta's overarching restructuring plan for the current year, with a primary focus on bolstering investment in AI. The teams that will receive transferred employees include the AAI, ATA XFN teams, and the Central Analytics team, all of which are dedicated to the development or support of AI agents.
