Michael Wehner, Microsoft's executive in charge of deal transactions, confirmed on May 11 (local time) that Microsoft has invested over 100 billion US dollars in its collaboration with OpenAI, including initial investments and the costs of building infrastructure and providing computing hosting services. This represents the cumulative total investment up to the current fiscal year (ending in June), with many of these costs incurred before generating revenue. For example, Microsoft had to pre-build Azure infrastructure to support OpenAI, where Azure is Microsoft's cloud computing division.
