On May 13th, news emerged that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) organized a symposium focused on the development of high-quality industrial datasets. The gathering highlighted that the advancement and utilization of industrial data are pivotal for propelling technological progress in artificial intelligence, nurturing new productive forces of superior quality, and facilitating the digital and intelligent transformation of the manufacturing industry.

China is endowed with a wealth of industrial data resources, a well-rounded industrial system, and a diverse array of application scenarios, all of which offer tremendous opportunities for development and exploitation. The symposium underscored the importance of tackling challenges related to the "collection, integration, and application" of industrial data. It called for in-depth exploration of pathways, the establishment of incentive mechanisms for data circulation, and the acceleration of the construction of high-quality industrial datasets.

In tandem with these efforts, it is crucial to fortify the industrial data infrastructure, enhance technological innovations, and bolster the development of a standardized system, thereby laying a robust foundation for future growth. Moreover, support should be extended to the expansion of data service enterprises, and innovative cooperation models, such as data collaboration consortia, should be established to foster a collaborative and innovative industrial data ecosystem.

Additionally, there should be concerted efforts to guide enterprises of varying sizes—large, medium, and small—in conducting data development and utilization tailored to their specific classifications. This will promote the digital and intelligent transformation of industries on a sector-by-sector basis and facilitate data sharing and value co-creation among entities such as industrial clusters.
