Security researchers at Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, have revealed that a cybercrime group utilized artificial intelligence to develop hacking tools, successfully bypassing a defense mechanism widely used for software management in computer systems. Upon discovery, Google's Threat Intelligence Team alerted the tool developers, thwarting the plot. This marks the first time Google has identified hackers using AI to generate 'zero-day' exploits for attacks. Google stated that while it is highly confident that AI was used to discover and weaponize the vulnerabilities, it did not disclose the specific names of the involved group, affected software, or the large language model used. Google only clarified that the vulnerability was not generated by Anthropic PBC's Mythos or Google's own Gemini model, and that it was discovered 'recently,' without providing further details.
