On May 9, The Information reported, citing two sources with inside knowledge of the matter, that Liang Wenfeng, the founder and CEO of DeepSeek, is considering a personal investment of 20 billion yuan in the company's inaugural funding round. This substantial contribution would represent 40% of the total funds raised, thereby establishing him as the largest investor in this round. The funding goal for this initial round is set at up to 50 billion yuan. Should it be successfully concluded, this funding round would mark the largest in the history of Chinese AI companies, with an anticipated post-investment valuation surpassing 350 billion yuan. In addition to this financial milestone, DeepSeek has also announced its intention to launch V4.1, an upgraded iteration of its V4 model, in June.
