On April 10, 9to5mac unveiled that the iOS 26 system has undergone significant optimizations to its messaging app. Beyond enhancements in group chat functionalities and spam message safeguards, the system's core search capability has witnessed a remarkable leap forward, thanks to the integration of AI technology. This advancement enables the search function to support natural language input and offer relevant result recommendations. Users can now effortlessly input search queries in everyday language, such as "photos of my mom from our beach trip in June," and the system adeptly comprehends the semantics to deliver precise matches.
This innovative feature is driven by Apple Intelligence and is constructed on the foundation of large language models. It stands as one of the over 20 novel AI functionalities introduced in iOS 26. However, it's worth noting that this particular feature is exclusively available on the iPhone 15 Pro series and subsequent models, encompassing all iterations of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 series, as well as the iPhone Air.
