On Monday (local time), OpenAI officially petitioned the attorneys general of California and Delaware to launch an investigation into Elon Musk and his associated entities. The tech firm accused them of improper conduct and anti-competitive practices. Musk, who was a co-founder of OpenAI, departed from the company in 2018. Subsequently, he established xAI and introduced the chatbot Grok, thereby igniting commercial rivalry between the two firms. In 2024, Musk initiated legal action against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, contending that their transformation into a for-profit entity contravened its original non-profit objectives. In response, OpenAI alleged that Musk had unsuccessfully tried to persuade Mark Zuckerberg to acquire OpenAI and that his damages claim exceeding $100 billion was intended to cripple the non-profit organization. Presently, a judge has determined that the case will be adjudicated by a jury, with the trial slated to begin in April this year.
