Reports indicate that the construction of AI data centers in the United States is being hampered by a scarcity of power equipment, causing nearly half of the planned projects to experience delays or cancellations. Among all the components, high-power transformers are in the most dire shortage. Given the inadequate domestic production capacity and prolonged delivery times in the United States, data center developers have had no choice but to turn to imports. Chinese transformer exports to the U.S. have witnessed explosive growth, with the export value climbing by 61% year-on-year in January-February 2026. Exports specifically to the United States have soared by 182% year-on-year, emerging as a crucial force in bridging the supply gap.
