Six months after launching the Sora standalone app, OpenAI plans to discontinue the video generation service to simplify its artificial intelligence product lineup. Launched in late September 2025, Sora promised users the ability to easily generate and share realistic AI videos within a quasi-social network. The free app once topped the Apple App Store charts but later saw its ranking decline.
