According to VentureBeat, Microsoft officially rolled out Copilot Cowork in March 2026 as a central component of the Microsoft 365 Copilot “Wave 3” update. This innovative tool seamlessly operates across applications like Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint, automatically planning and executing complex, multi-step tasks. This marks a major leap—transitioning from a conversational assistant to an AI operating at the “execution layer.”
Built on Anthropic’s Claude technology and enriched with contextual insights from Microsoft WorkIQ, Copilot Cowork empowers enterprise users to assign intricate tasks directly to AI for automated handling. Users can oversee multiple tasks via a unified dashboard, track progress, tweak plans, or halt execution whenever necessary. Currently, the feature is in the Research Preview phase, with plans to gradually broaden its testing reach through the Frontier program later in March.
