As reported by Nikkei Chinese, leveraging data from OpenRouter—a prominent U.S.-based AI tool platform—and insights from venture capital firm a16z, it has been revealed that as of November 2025, generative AI models developed in China have secured a notable 15% share of the global market. This marks a substantial leap from the mere 1.2% market share recorded in November 2024. On an average basis, spanning from November 2024 to November 2025, Chinese open-source AI contributions have constituted 13% of the market, with weekly shares occasionally surging past the 30% mark. Notably, around 40% of these Chinese models are deployed for high-intensity professional endeavors, including programming and design tasks.
