South Koreans are now spending more each month on artificial intelligence (AI) subscription services than they do on Netflix. Projections indicate that by December 2025, South Korean consumers' total expenditure on seven AI services will hit 80.3 billion won. This figure will surpass Netflix's average monthly subscription revenue in South Korea, which stood at 75 billion won in 2024. It's important to note, however, that payments for AI services encompass corporate spending, whereas Netflix's revenue is derived solely from individual subscribers. From January 2024 to December 2025, credit card transactions for AI services in South Korea soared to 1.666 billion, reflecting monthly payments from both individual and corporate users. In terms of market share, ChatGPT stands out as the leader in paid subscriptions. Industry experts highlight that South Korea's subscription economy is on an upward trajectory, with generative AI progressively becoming a standard subscription offering. Furthermore, there are notable disparities in the average monthly subscription revenue per user for Netflix between the Asia-Pacific region and North America, reflecting varying market dynamics and consumer behaviors.
